Trump criticized Germany for Nord stream-2.
US President, Donald trump has again criticized Germany because of the gas pipeline Nord stream-2. Berlin Moscow pays “billions of dollars for a brand new pipeline,” said trump at a campaign meeting with his supporters in Tulsa, Oklahoma on Saturday, June 20, reports the Chronicle.info with reference to the Correspondent.
“We need to protect Germany from Russia”, — said the head of the White house.
The US and some European States oppose the pipeline. According to them, it will strengthen Europe’s dependence on Russian gas supplies. Work on the construction of Nord stream-2 was halted because of U.S. sanctions against European contractors, which entered into force in December 2019.
In addition, the President of the United States has again criticized Berlin in the insufficient, in his opinion, the contributions to the NATO budget. For 25 years, Germany owes the Alliance “one trillion dollars”, says the head of the White house.
NATO’s goal is to make each of its member States the allocation to the military Alliance no less than two percent of GDP by 2024. Although Germany in recent years significantly increased spending on defense in 2019, they accounted for 1.38 percent of the country’s GDP.
