Another argument in favor of a refreshing drink.
People who regularly drink coffee, rarely have problems with the heart rhythm. To such conclusion the group of doctors under the leadership of young-Chon Kim, University of California, San Francisco. The report on this study was presented at the Heart Rhythm Society conference 2020, held in an online format, reports the Chronicle.info with reference to the Telegraph.
The authors of the report considered information on the relationship between usual coffee consumption and the development of arrhythmias. To do this, data were collected on 357022 subjects from the database of medical and biological data UK Biobank. In the studied sample for five years and three months of observation, was diagnosed 8159 cases of arrhythmia: they 6999 cases of atrial fibrillation, 890 — supraventricular tachycardia, 459 — ventricular tachycardia and 385 — ventricular arrythmia.
Consumption of coffee was associated with a significantly lower risk of arrhythmia. So, one or two cups a day reduce the likelihood of occurrence of such pathologies by 10% compared with no coffee consumption, three-four cups — by 14%, and five or more cups of 15 percent.
Reducing the risk of arrhythmia was observed for all subtypes, except for ventricular arrythmia.
According to the authors of the report, the results of the study can change the view of experts on threats to the cardiovascular system associated with this product. “The results of our study have to convince patients and physicians in low risk, regular consumption of coffee,” sums up the authors of the report.
Based on the above data, we can conclude that the optimal daily dose of coffee — four to five cups a day. This is consistent with the results of a study conducted two years ago by experts from the Düsseldorf University. German scientists have determined that the equivalent of four cups a day is the optimal dose, which protects heart cells from damage and rebirths.
