Former Minister of health advises to avoid large crowds on the beaches
The likelihood of Contracting coronavirus infection through the water is very small. About this on his page in Facebook said the former Minister of health of Ukraine Ulyana Suprun.
“According to the CDC and FDA, at the moment there is no evidence that the virus can be spread through water in swimming pools, hot tubs, spas, or sites for the water games. Especially if the water is treated with chlorine, because it is able to inactivate the virus in the water” – she wrote.
Also, according to Suprun, very unlikely to catch this infection through water in open ponds and rivers or in salt water.
“To get a virus, most often, the particles to be inhaled, not swallowed. The close contact with an infected person (when he coughs, sneezes, speaks, or breathes air for a long enough period of time – at least 15 minutes at a distance of less than 1 meter) is the most likely way of Contracting the virus. Another is via contaminated surfaces and touch people without proper hand hygiene, “said the former Minister.
In addition, according to her, other coronaviruses, in particular, the virus SARS-CoV, poorly survive in water.
“The RNA virus SARS-CoV-2 was detected in fecal mass patients COVID-19 people. Theoretically they can get in the water, and then, if the person during the voyage of the swallow, it can go directly into the body. But in this state it is very unlikely that the virus remains active and dangerous” – gave an example Suprun.

But she advises not to bathe in areas where the marine water mixes with sewage, which can be infected with a virus.
“It is theoretically possible that the action of the waves can aerosolizable these particles and move with the wind to the beach. Again – very small possibility that it can happen. Although, of course, in places where water is mixed with sewage, is better not to swim (this is, for example, in sewage treatment plants, farms or plants)”, – said Suprun.
Kyiv beaches opened for swimming
The most risk of Contracting coronavirus, according to her, during the rest of the water. Because the beaches and pools are often going to a large number of people. In order not to get infected, Suprun recommends:
- to avoid large concentrations of people – as on the waterfront or sea view, poolside and in the water;
- to give preference to open beaches in the fresh air and not stay in the indoor pools;
- stick to a physical distance of at least 2 meters;
