'The Handmaid's Tale' remains a brutal nightmare
I have a friend who watches This Is Us because she likes to have a good cry every week. She’s emotionally invested in those characters, and it’s a cathartic experience for her to experience the ups and downs of those characters. But for other people I know, they can’t stand the series because they feel it’s misery porn. There’s a lot of art which is significant and meaningful on some level or another, but at the end of the day doesn’t leave one with the best feelings when it’s over.
Michael Haneke is an accomplished director, with many critically acclaimed films such as Funny Games, The White Ribbon and Amour, all of which received much critical acclaim. However, his films are also a place where hope goes to die. The Seventh Continent is a haunting film which sticks with the viewer, and leaves the audience contemplating the situation.
